How to Draw a Fawn (Kid-Friendly Guide)
Hello boys and girls! We recently received a request asking for a simple lesson on how to draw a fawn step by step. We’re always happy to help young artists, so we’ve prepared the easiest guide possible just for you.
In this fun drawing activity, you’ll not only learn how to sketch a cute fawn, but you’ll also get to know a bit more about this gentle animal while improving your hand control and drawing skills. All you need is a clean sheet of paper, a pencil, and the wish to create something beautiful. We’ll guide you through everything else!
But first, let’s learn a little about our animal friend.
Fawns are gentle, peaceful creatures. They are calm and often curious, and in some situations they can even approach humans without fear. Because of their sweet nature, people often find them very lovable.
A fawn is a young deer, belonging to the large family of hoofed mammals. Deer can live in many different environments, including forests, grasslands, wetlands, deserts, and even cold Arctic regions. They are commonly found across Europe, Asia, and North America.
Now that we know more about fawns, let’s begin our simple drawing steps.
Time Needed: About 20 Minutes
Step 1 — Draw the Head
Start by placing the head in the center of your page. Draw a simple oval shape.
Step 2 — Add the Body
Deer have long bodies. From the head, draw two slightly slanted lines downward. Connect them with a stretched oval shape to form the body.
Step 3 — Add Ears, Legs, and Tail
Next, sketch small ears, four thin legs, and a soft, curved tail.
Step 4 — Draw Antlers and Hooves
Shape the basic antlers using long curved forms. Then add small hooves and refine the legs.
Step 5 — Add Branching Antlers and Facial Details
Extend each antler by adding smaller branch-like shapes (about four on each side, making eight in total).
Now draw the face:
Two small filled circles for the eyes
A tiny oval for the nose
A short curved line under the nose
Connect the nose and mouth area with a light vertical line
Finally, draw a soft line running from the head down toward the back legs to shape the belly.
Step 6 — Add Facial Lines and Spots
Draw gentle curved lines on the face starting from the ears toward the nose.
For a spotted deer look, add several oval spots of different sizes across the body.
Step 7 — Trace the Drawing
Once your pencil sketch is complete, carefully go over it using a marker or pen to make the lines cleaner and clearer.
Step 8 — Color Your Fawn
Now it’s time to bring your drawing to life!
Use dark brown for antlers, hooves, and nose
Light brown for parts of the body, ears, face, and tail
Beige for the spots and some body areas
Match leg colors with the upper body tones
All Done!
Great job—you finished your fawn drawing! See? It wasn’t difficult at all. The key is patience, practice, and having fun while you draw.
Feel free to share your artwork with friends or on social media so others can see your creation.
